Tell Our Stories · Disrupt The Systems · Build Our Communities

The 4 Da Hood Philosophy

Reclaim Your Story. Then Lead From It.

Somewhere along the way, your story was taken — by institutions, by the weight of expectations, by other people, or by the quiet (and not so quiet) pressure to fit in. Reclaiming your story gets you back to who you are, and to leading with more authenticity, courage, and joy. For organizations, reclamation builds loyalty. For allies, reclamation builds trust. And for People of Color, reclamation builds communities. It's exactly what we're here for.

What We Do

How We Do It

How We Do It

We help organizations and individuals own their stories — through leadership programs, coaching, and trainings rooted in racial and gender equity, community, and real talk.

How We Do It

How We Do It

How We Do It

Everything we do is grounded in restorative circle practices, asset-based storytelling, and guided facilitation. We foster healing spaces where people can be protected, be seen, be vulnerable, and be moved to fight the good fight — together.

This You?

How We Do It

This You?

Something not working? Does the culture feel off? Does leadership feel performative? Do you feel there's a better way to show up — for your people, your community, and yourself? Do you just need the right space to reclaim your story and rise up?

What Folks Are Saying About 4 Da Hood

"It was a joy to work with and learn from 4DH! The team communicated frequently and effectively, understood our objectives, and took great care to facilitate inclusive listening sessions focused on centering the voices of people experiencing food insecurity in our anti-hunger advocacy and programming. 4DH is incredibly organized, professional, and insightful. They helped us establish a foundation to build a Community Advisory Council and made critical recommendations for how to move this work forward. Thank you!"

"I attended a legit-get-outta-your-comfort-zone session on “Learning Separately to Lead Collectively,” by the one and only Frank Velásquez Jr. His case for giving people of color and white allies separate spaces to relax and learn so that we can come back together to do our best collective work really got me thinking. So many thoughts came up for everyone in the room and Frank was masterful in the way he allowed the group to share and ask questions. This is not a one hour, one time, 'okay I got it, we can check it off,' kind of discussion! I need more time with Frank to dig deeper."

- Greg Curtis Wakefield, Life Potential and Leadership Coach

"I walked into Frank's session by accident but after five minutes of hearing his content, I had to stay and even moved up to the front. The Nonprofit Storytelling Conference has been insightful, but also lonely in some ways. As a Black man, I often find myself in (white) spaces like this one and needing to remind myself I am a bridge builder and not alone. Frank's session felt like home as it spoke to changing a broken model. I also noticed how many PoC shared with confidence. Keep doing what you're doing, Frank. It matters."

"Graduating from Ascending Leaders in Color has been more than a professional milestone, it’s been an important personal journey. This space allowed us to explore our stories, our leadership, our healing, and our power, all in community with one another. Huge thanks to Frank Velásquez Jr. for his vision, his vulnerability, and his commitment to creating spaces where we don’t have to explain our “why”—we’re simply allowed to be. If you’re looking for something beyond traditional leadership development, something rooted in partnership, liberation, healing, and heart, this is it!"

"I see Frank out there breaking barriers in spaces that are dominated by people who never hear our voices. I’m so proud of the Ascending Leaders in Color program 4 Da Hood program because it truly is one of the ONLY things being done in the DEI space in leadership for people of color."

""I saw that Frank was one of the speakers at the 2021 Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, and I wanted to show up and hear what he had to talk about. I listened to Frank talk about how to reclaim (BIPOC narratives because of) how it makes people of color feel. That exceeded my expectations by far!"
